Oil Sands Questions to be Decided by American People, Not Politicians - July 9, 2008

The urgency of Alberta’s Political PR Offensive to put an end to misconceptions about the oilsands is underscored by concerns that an American energy bill could prevent the use of unconventional energy sources such as the oil sands by US government agencies.

Canada-US relations expert Chris Sands believes that efforts to affect US energy policy should be targeted to the American public rather than politicians.  Quoted in the Calgary Herald, he said, “It's largely a question of what the American people are going to decide, rather than what the American politicians are going to decide.  Canadians love to think if we educate those poor dumb Americans, they'll see it our way. Not quite the case here.”
