Safety

Safety is an outcome we measure, a set of principles that guide our decision-making and the utmost critical aspect of our operations.

In fact, our Board of Directors has explicitly mandated that nothing is more important than the safety of people and the environment. But for us, safety is more than all those things. It is a mindset that we lead with and a value that we live each and every day.

In other words, working and living safely isn't just the job we're doing, its part of our very character and personality. That's why we work hard to ensure our operations are run the same way. If the job can't be done safely than we won't do it.

For Our People

We want the best for our employees, contractors and visitors so we take safety very seriously. We recognize that there are inherent risks in a workplace like ours so we strive to ensure our people have the right tools, training and skills to operate our projects safely. Everyone goes home safely every night. That is the first priority in our operations.

To accomplish that, we set expectations that unsafe practices will be reported, rectified and learned from. Open communication without repercussion ensures that shortcuts or unnecessary risks are not accepted. Working for Osum also means valuing integrity, so we reward individuals who have the courage to speak up when safety is at stake.

Through practical and applicable safety policies and procedures, everyone knows what is expected of them in their job and as an Osum employee. Compromising safety for any reason isn't how we do business.

For Our Neighbours

Our community stakeholders are a critical part of our business. You are our partners throughout the resource development process and our success depends on you.

The communities we operate in are vibrant and engaged, and because our neighbours are as passionate about their community as we are, we're able to take extra steps early in the process to build relationships and take stock of the important issues.

Before beginning a project, Osum actively seeks and analyzes data about even the smallest detail that might affect our stakeholders. This includes air quality, land and area impact studies. The effect we have on any of those areas has important implications for our neighbours.

We strive in our daily operations and practices to be true to our philosophy on transparency and integrity. If something happens on our site, good or bad, we're going to tell you about it. Open communication is important to developing good relationships and business opportunities.

For Our Projects

If we're going to do something, it's going to be done right. Osum encourages feedback on unsafe issues and we do more than just talk about things. Our staff take action on any item or area of concern that someone inside or outside the company brings up. Feedback presents invaluable learning opportunities to do things better and help ensure that our safety policies grow with every stage of every project. That way we can ensure compliance with not only government regulation, but with our high internal standards.

Everyone can contribute to a safe worksite, one without spills, fires or incidents. The important thing is that everyone is involved in the process. Managing safety requires diligent effort to keep skills up to date and ensuring standards and procedure protocols are met. All Osum staff members are trained in emergency procedures and are available to be called on to keep our neighbours and employees safe in an emergency situation.

In addition to procedures, Osum knows that advanced technology improves safety conditions on work sites. So we use state of the art equipment that enables our work to be less disruptive and reduce dangerous risks.

We understand that clear communication and focus on the task at hand are critical steps to minimizing risk and preventing accidents. That's why our number one best practice for ensuring safety management is prevention. Safety will be top of mind for everyone who works with us. From our newest recruit to our board of directors, safety and prevention is a culture we truly believe in.
