This is an exciting opportunity at Osum based in our Calgary, Alberta Office.  The successful candidate will report directly to the Director, Subsurface Engineering based in Calgary.  This position will provide the ideal candidate with the opportunity to develop their career while they create value by increasing production at the Orion asset.  This senior level engineer will take a key role in working with Production and Geoscience teams setting the direction of Orion subsurface operations.

Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Developing a reservoir management plan with the goal of maximizing the value of new and mature well pairs and lead longer term reviews to adjust as required
  • Utilizing internal and external analog data as well as simulation studies to develop well pair and area oil/water/steam forecasts
  • Working closely with Production Engineering to review to solve operations issues in the day-to-day management of SAGD wells
  • Developing plans and justifications to optimize well pair completions
  • Working closely with the Geoscience team to integrate performance data, observation wells and repeat seismic with the goal of optimizing the reservoir management plan, improving forecasts and monitoring cap-rock integrity
  • Working closely with development team to communicate operational learnings and provide input into future drilling and development, with the goal of continuous improvement

Qualifications Include:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering with professional designation and at least 10 years of SAGD engineering experience including surveillance experience in SAGD startup, target optimization and workovers.  You must demonstrate experience successfully creating value through optimizing reservoir management plans, optimizing wellbore completions and solving technical issues.  Excellent communication skills are required.  In addition you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience in SAGD well-pair optimization including targets and completions
  • Experience with STARS/Flex-well reservoir simulation, to optimize completion designs and solve problems
  • Strong understanding of Oil-sands geology and what factors influence performance
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, strong time management, problem solving and analytical skills, and excellent communication, organizational and team leadership skills

Field experience is a strong asset as would experience in the development of Solvent SAGD pilots and their operation.  A Master’s Degree in Engineering is a definite advantage.
